Among the many incidents of selective prosecution, the committee’s deliberate omission of a crucial transcript that detailed then-President Trump’s requests for National Guard troops to protect the Capitol stands out. According to Deputy Chief of Staff Anthony Ornato, who testified on January 28, 2022, then-Chief of Staff Mark Meadows had spoken with D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser about Trump’s request for 10,000 troops. This testimony directly contradicts the committee’s baseless claims that there was no evidence to support Trump’s account. Yet, the committee opted to suppress this critical information, perpetuating a narrative of dishonesty and bias. Liz Cheney’s role in this modern-day witch hunt cannot be overstated. However, it quickly became a vehicle for political vengeance and a cover-up of corruption at the highest levels of government. It is imperative that Americans pressure their newly elected representative to work toward transparency and accountability in this matter. Those responsible for the biased prosecution, the suppression of exonerating evidence, and the corrupt use of FBI informants must be held accountable.
